Mattering: The Cornerstone of Personal Well-being and Emotional Resilience
Welcome to Our Community
Hello, new and returning readers! Today, we are unpacking an incredibly important concept—“mattering.” At its core, this is a discussion about personal well-being and its potential to save lives. If you're new here, our podcast is a sanctuary for survivors, thrivers, and those on a quest for healing and self-discovery. We delve into emotional education as the pathway to a higher purpose and self-love.
Who Am I?
For those who don't know me, I'm a psychotherapist with nearly two decades of experience, primarily working in the areas of addiction, grief, and trauma healing. Highly sensitive individuals make up a significant portion of my clientele. I began my private practice in 2009 and recently celebrated my 43rd birthday. This podcast "Emotional Badass," is a labor of love and commitment—we've consistently published weekly content for over five years.
The People Behind the Podcast
The inspiration to go beyond my therapy room and reach a broader audience comes from my amazing clients, who have been a wellspring of love and enlightenment. Chris, my husband, has been podcasting since 2004 and is the production wizard behind our content. More than just the technical backbone, he is my staunchest supporter and a pivotal reason why this podcast exists.
Understanding "Mattering"
The idea of "mattering" is so fundamental to our discussion today because it touches upon our inherent worthiness. Each one of us deserves love and respect, irrespective of our differences.
The Emotional Shadows of Our Past
Many people carry the emotional scars from growing up in households devoid of empathy and emotional maturity. This often results in long-term mental health issues like anxiety, depression, and symptoms akin to PTSD. I can relate to this pain, having struggled with suicidal thoughts in my past. My experiences and decades-long practice have afforded me insights into the intricacies of emotional health.
A Holistic Approach to Healing
To me, healing transcends the limitations of psychology and ventures into the spiritual dimensions of our existence. My aim is not fame—I am inherently introverted. My mission is to assist others in finding emotional equilibrium, inner peace, and happiness, away from the public eye if possible.
Our Inspiration and Motivation
Though figures like Oprah Winfrey and Maya Angelou have been inspirational to me, my path to healing taught me that resilience and thriving are not exclusive to the rich and famous. Chris and I produce this podcast not for recognition but as a meaningful contribution to society.
Relativity of Suffering
Pain is personal and relative. It's essential to honor each individual’s experience and not undermine it based on comparisons. Deep healing is accessible to everyone, regardless of the specific challenges they've faced.
Emotional Boundaries and Self-Authority
I've found that setting strict emotional boundaries, especially with inadequately supportive families, is key to healing. When you establish yourself as your own emotional authority, you become invulnerable to manipulation—crucial for those who have suffered abuse or neglect.
The Essence of ‘Soul Care’
This journey isn’t about shallow self-love gestures like taking luxurious baths; it's about true self-acceptance and ongoing self-improvement. I coin this as 'soul care,' where the aim is to thrive, not just survive.
Your Emotional Toolkit
I'll guide you on how to attain inner tranquility amidst life’s chaos, teach you to silence your inner critic, and assist you in connecting with a higher power, as you define it.
The Ultimate Goal
By re-parenting your inner child, you'll internalize the belief that you have inherent worth, which is the essence of 'mattering.' You have the agency to believe in your value, and when you do, you enrich not just your life but contribute to collective well-being.
Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your path towards emotional intelligence and resilience. Your engagement fuels my passion for this work, and I am eternally grateful for the reciprocal growth and understanding that blossoms from this community.
